Make AskRobots your default search
Search from your browser's address bar with AskRobots. It takes a minute, and you can switch back any time.
Works anywhere a browser asks for a search address:
https://askrobots.com/dashboard/search/?q=%s&source=opensearch
Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi
- Do one search on this site (that's how the browser notices AskRobots).
- Open Settings → Search engine → Manage search engines (Edge: Settings → Privacy, search, and services → Address bar and search).
- Find AskRobots under site search (or click Add and paste the address above), then choose ⋮ → Make default.
Firefox
- On this page, click the ⋯ menu in the address bar (or right-click the address bar) and choose Add “AskRobots”.
- Open Settings → Search and set Default Search Engine to AskRobots.
Safari (Mac, iPhone, iPad)
Safari only lets you choose from a fixed list (Google, Yahoo, Bing, DuckDuckGo, Ecosia); Apple doesn't allow other search engines as the default. Instead you can:
- Install a Safari extension that sends address-bar searches to a search address of your choice, and give it the address above.
- Or add askrobots.com to your favorites or your home screen.
- Or use Firefox or Chrome on that device.
On your phone
- Android, Chrome: do one search here, then Settings → Search engine and pick AskRobots under “Recently visited”.
- Android and iPhone, Firefox: Settings → Search → Default search engine → Add search engine. Name: AskRobots; address: the one above.
- iPhone, Chrome: do one search here, then Settings → Search Engine and pick AskRobots under “Recently Visited”, if it appears.
- iPhone, Safari: no other search engines (see Safari above); add AskRobots to your home screen instead.
Install AskRobots as an app
AskRobots can sit on your home screen or dock and open in its own window:
- Chrome or Edge on a computer: click the install icon at the right of the address bar (or menu → Install AskRobots, or Apps → Install this site as an app).
- Android: Chrome menu ⋮ → Add to home screen (or Install app).
- iPhone and iPad: in Safari, tap Share → Add to Home Screen.
What changes
Searches from your address bar go to AskRobots, with suggestions as you type. Signed in, they search your own notes, files and links too. Address-bar searches carry source=opensearch so we can count how many people use AskRobots as their default; that count keeps no search words and no name. Privacy policy
